Western Hills Rise Wide
Despite being furiously busy with our preparations for ConVocation (the Yog-Sothoth.com online convention, coming up at the end of October), we have somehow found time to release another new Cthulhu Eternal scenario — “Thunder God’s Curse” by our own William Adcock .
Set in Arizona in 1936, this adventure puts Protagonists on the trail of an amateur investigator who went missing in the infamous Superstition Mountains while searching for the fabled “Dutchman’s Goldmine”. It might be the 1930s, but out here life hasn’t changed all that much since the days of the American West … and some might say that it hasn’t changed all that much since more ancient and primal times still. As they investigate the fortune-seeker’s disappearance, Protagonists come to realise just how true this is.
This scenario is a wonderful exercise in taking a relatively familiar era for Cthulhu gaming and transposing it to a brand new and intriguing setting. The modernity of the Sinclair Gas Station with its novelty brontosaurus statue sits next to the vast ancientness of the desert landscape. And as everyone knows about Lovecraftian wastelands, they are never as devoid of life — by whatever cosmic standards you judge it — as anyone thinks.
So saddle up, make sure you’ve got plenty of water … because this Cthulhu investigation is venturing out into uncharted territories. Here’s hoping everyone makes it back safe … and sane.
